Position Summary:

The Rhode Island Public Health Institute seeks a Medical Biller / Front Desk Associate for Open Door Health, our community-based clinic in Providence, Rhode Island. The clinic focuses specifically on sexual health and primary care for members of the LGBTQ community. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing, with the skills necessary to improve our current billing procedures and reduce A/R days. The successful candidate will work on a number of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation of medical claims and exercise of judgement with the appropriate scope of practice. The Medical Biller / Front Desk Associate will report to the Chief Financial Officer with additional oversight provided by the Medical Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and direct patients presenting to the clinic
  • Register patients in the electronic medical record system (EMR)
  • Gather patient insurance and financial information for third party insurers
  • Conduct financial assessments for uninsured / under insured patients per clinic policies
  • Obtain and update medical authorizations for payment from insurers
  • Perform posting charges and completion of claims to payers in a timely fashion
  • Submit claims to insurance providers through AthenaHealth
  • Work claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided

·        Collect and record co-payments

  • Work in a respectful and friendly manner with patients to resolve medical claims and copayment issues
  • Establish payment arrangements on current and delinquent patient accounts
  • Apply for patient assistance programs as needed
  • Update Medicare and Medicaid cost and bad-debt reports and other related information
  • Protect and keep all patient and clinic information confidential
  • Follow all HIPAA, JCAHO, state, and federal laws and standards
  • Actively explore educational opportunities to improve job knowledge and skills
  • Assist with other clinical and related public health activities identified by the medical and executive directors

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; Certified Medical Biller preferred
  • 4+ years’ professional experience in a clinic or community health setting
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records; Experience with Athena highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to work as independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Fluent in the provision of culturally congruent services

Other:

  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural Spanish or/and Portuguese is strongly preferred
  • Experience providing culturally congruent and affirming care to sexual and gender minorities and racial and ethnic minorities is highly desirable

Position Summary:

The Rhode Island Public Health Institute seeks a Nurse (RN) for Open Door Health, our community-based clinic in Providence, Rhode Island. The clinic focuses specifically on sexual health and primary care for members of the LGBTQ community. The Nurse will report to the RIPHI Medical Director of the Clinic and work closely with the Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse will be responsible for providing culturally-congruent primary and sexual health care, screening patients for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and providing other medical care including COVID-19 screening.

Responsibilities:

    • Provide culturally congruent primary and sexual health care with a focus on individuals from the LGBTQ community
    • Screen patients for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections
    • Assist with phlebotomy services / specimen collection; coordinate with East Side Clinical Labs for courier pick up
    • Notify patients of test results and coordinate follow up care as appropriate
    • Triage patients and perform initial history and physical examinations
    • Administer vaccinations and medications including intramuscular injections
    • Use electronic medical records and other databases to provide accurate documentation of patient encounters
    • Maintain medical / medication supplies inventory log and coordinate reordering as necessary
    • Deliver a high quality of care while meeting expectations related to ongoing quality improvement
    • Participate in research related activities as needed which may include recruitment of participants and enrollment in various studies
    • Assist with clinic and grants management
    • Assist with other clinical and related public health activities identified by the medical and executive directors

Requirements:

    • ASN/BSN/MSN and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Rhode Island
    • 2+ years’ nursing experience
    • Ability to work as independently and collaboratively within a team environment
    • Proficiency with electronic medical records; Experience with Athena highly desirable
    • Strong communication skills
    • BLS and ACLS certification
    • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines
    • Fluent in the provision of culturally congruent services

Position Summary:

RIPHI seeks a clinical administrative assistant (CAA) to help lead a new community-based clinic in Providence, Rhode Island. The clinic will focus specifically on sexual health and primary care for members of the LGBTQ community. The CAA will report to the RIPHI Medical Director of Open Door Health. The CAA will provide a variety of services for patients including greeting and directing patients, registering and scheduling, collecting payment, answering and directing phone calls, checking-out patients, and other administrative duties. Importantly, the CAA must be able to interact in a friendly and respectful manner to all patients presenting to care.

Responsibilities:

    • Greet and direct all patients presenting to the clinic
    • Perform registration for patients which includes inputting demographic and insurance information into an electronic medical record system (EMR)
    • Conduct financial assessments for patients per clinic policies
    • Assist with financial aspects including insurance and billing practices
    • Collect co-payments
    • Schedule patients for initial and follow-up appointments
    • Generate patient referrals as needed
    • Apply for patient assistance programs as needed
    • Comply with HIPAA and other privacy regulations and policies
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
    • Assist with ordering clinic supplies
    • Assist with other clinical and related public health activities identified by the medical and executive directors

Requirements:

    • High school diploma required; advanced courses, degree or certification preferred
    • 2+ years’ working in a clinical or community setting
    • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction
    • Familiarity with electronic medical records
    • Strong communication skills
    • Computer literacy required
    • Fluent in the provision of culturally congruent services

    • Perform accurate history and physical examinations
    • Provide advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director
    • Use electronic medical records and other database systems to provide accurate documentation of patient encounters
    • Follow up on test results to determine appropriate course of action and further treatment options
    • Deliver a high quality of care while meeting expectations related to ongoing quality improvement
    • Participate in research related activities as needed which may include recruitment of participants and enrollment in various studies
    • Oversee other staff as indicated
    • Assist with clinic administration and grants management
    • Assist with clinic and grants management
    • Assist with other clinical and related public health activities identified by the medical and executive directors

Requirements:

    • Maters of Science Degree or higher from an accredited nurse practitioner program
    • Valid nurse practitioner license in the state of Rhode Island
    • 2+ years’ nursing experience
    • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction
    • Familiarity with electronic medical records
    • Strong communication skills
    • BLS and ACLS certification
    • Fluent in the provision of culturally congruent services
